do you have to wear eyewear while tanning in a tanning bed?

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin

I know the shop tells you you have to but that is to save their butts if anything happens. But I dont want raccoon eyes so I would rather not wear them every time.
I tan in a high pressure bed, there are uv a rays but no uv b rays, it is impossible to burn in this bed. So it is differnet than a normal tanning bed.

Yes. You definitely need to wear them EVERY time!
I go indoor tanning alot and have done my research because I also did not want to wear the glasses every time. But unfortunately it’s something you should do. Closing your eyes or even putting a towel over your eyes is not enough. UV light can pass through all of these and damage your eyesight. You can see what it can do to your skin in only a matter of minutes, imagine what it can do to your eyes, which are extremely sensitive. I go tanning a lot and am quite dark and have never got racoon eyes. This is because your skin continues to tan until 3 hours after your tan is done.(This is why you’re not supposed to shower for 3 hours afterwards.) So even though you wear the eyewear, around your eyes becomes darker also, because the tan spreads.

It’s the state law, but what you do behind close doors is your business, you just can’t sue if you go blind, etc. Because you shown your eye wear and signed papers. But, I usually just close my eyes…

the skin of your eyelid is not thick enough to protect your eyes from permanent uv damage in a situation like that. the concentration of the uv rays will damage your eyes if you don’t wear protective eyewear.

and what good is a tan if in a few years you won’t be able to look in the mirror and see anything?

I would keep my eyes shut then… I dunno if the light can get thru your eye lids and cause damage.

no, you don’t have to. I didn’t always keep them on because of the racoon eyes thing too, but I just kept my eyes shut. keep them on half the time and take them off for half the time.

Then you shouldn’t be tanning. If you are going to make a stupid decesion like that then you deserve the consequences that follows.

Eyes are very sensitive. You are exposing them to ‘unnatural rays’, you need to protect them. Just like wearing sunglasses in hot weather.

You’ll go blind if you don’t. Wear the goggles. They have winkies and other types that don’t leave marks. A towel over your face is not good enough. Never even consider this.

do it. its totally worth it.
if you dont want ‘racoon’ eyes… just get a face cream that has a bit of self tanner in it.. i like the one by neutrogena. Use that every other day or so all over your face, it will blend into your tan as well eliminate any whiteness around your eyes

Yeah you should to protect your eyes.
Anyway forget the fake orange tan, tanning beds increase your chances of having skin Cancer so why risk you whole life just to end up looking like an orange?
Just use that money to buy yourself something nice!
    And i agree with peeplest…

Yes! Otherwise it can slowly burn your eyes without you knowing. If you don’t wear the goggles every time and you go a lot after awhile it can actually make you blind. and can cause severe damage to your eyes. So i would definitely recommend them!

Yes, you have to wear them- It is not just the liability reasons that they tell you to wear them. You can always use makeup tocover any white circles but if you buy WINK-EASE brand stick ons they don’t leave marks. If you are really concerned you can take them off for maybe 1-2 minutes a session just to get a little color.

Short term effects of not wearing eyewear: Itchy Eyes
    Midterm effects: Color Loss
    Long term effects: Vision Loss

your right about the saloons wanting you to wear eyewear…
some actually check to see if you have them before you can tan..while others don’t
    i personally dont wear them.
i just chose to keep the eyes shut.
so i think you will be ok if you don’t wear them.

The purpose of indoor tanning goggles is to protect your eyes from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) light. Since the eyelids don’t actually tan or provide protection from UV, it is essential to wear goggles for indoor tanning every time you attend a session.

Refusing to wear goggles inside a tanning bed is very dangerous and over time can cause long-term damage to your eye sight.

Without goggles for indoor tanning, clients risk burns to the cornea, cataracts and retinal damage.

You could still hurt your eyes badly…ever read the warnings on things. Honestly alot of them were designed for people with less common sense adn then of course there are things that we just may not know otherwise but they made this a law to protect you not to tell you what to do.How would this help them out? Think about it. They pay for the googles almost everywhere. I have never had lines by my eyes and I’m very light complected without a tan. Some things are not worth the chance! Please, please, pleasel!!! You are talking about your eyes, protect them. They’re important!!!When your older beauty may fade (at least the kind your thinking of as beauty now) but you will value your sight your intire life.Plus I’ve NEVER heard a guy say ooooh no, I can’t date her, she has tan lines by her eyes!
