anyone have a recommendation for a 22 y.o guy?

I just want something simple. Either light brow, smokey, silver..etc. but no crazy plastic stuff.

Not going to wear them daily.

Thanks

Posted on August 21st, 2011 by admin

Hi, I am looking at buying one of the following 2 eyeglass frames. one is Bulgari (a thin metal full rim) the other is Ralph Lauren metal semi-rimless rectangle shape. The 2nd one suites me more, but i like the name Bulgari on my frame. Is RL a sexy name in men eyeglass area? or should i chooses Bulgari? What do you girls think?

Why are ECP’s still recommending Polycarbonate?

Posted on August 9th, 2011 by admin

Pros of Trivex vs Polycarb–

Lighter
Higher Abbe value
Lower density
Does not crack when mounted in rimless eyewear
Chemical resistance (ie, acetone)
Much better impact resistance
Blocks more short-wave blue light
Fewer re-makes due to no splitting along grooved edges or stress induced by over-tightened metal eyewear.

Cons–

In higher Rx’s, Trivex is a little thicker than Poly

Why are we still promoting 40 year old lens technology (poly) when something much better has on the market for years? We should be offering our patients the best possible lenses. Everyone I know in the lab business hates Polycarb with varying degrees of passion.

Impact test on range of materials–

So the main detractors of Trivex are cost and availability. Totally understandable. Has anyone looked into free-forms instead of conventional PAL’s? They generally cost less and are available in every material available. We’ve had a lot of success putting our patients in various free-form designs. Non-adapts are down to nearly zero!
Sorry, I meant to say, "generally cost less than conventional PAL’s"…except Zeiss free-form! They are ridiculously expensive.

Trivex is a great material but more costly than Poly. Many progressive lens designs are not available in Trivex. Some labs don’t have a lot of experience with Trivex and have trouble finishing the edges in a way that looks good. The poly that is available now is not the same poly that was available 40 years ago so calling it 40 year old technology is not exactly fair.

How do you go about locating eyewear that’s no longer on the shelves or walls in optical stores?

They’re a semi rimless pair of black frames. They are a 90’s version of malcolm X’s frame. (BerDel Sferoflex pat Newton)

Sillouettes rimless eyewear.?

Posted on July 30th, 2011 by admin

I will be purchasing a pair in September. They cost a fortune. I was wondering about durability. I am also getting a Crizal coating on the lens. If you know these products please share your wisdom with me before I spend our hard earned money.I had a horrible and expensive experience with my last pair of glasses. (Not Sillouhettes or Crizal.) Thank you!

I personally have never work the Sillouette brand but I have heard nothing but POSITIVE feedback. I used to work for a large optical chain and people would come in and look for the Sillouette brand. When I advised them we didn’t carry them – I was told – well you should – they’re fantastic!

My understanding is they are super durable and they hold there shape very well.

As for the crizal coating – your eye carrier may refer to it as an anti reflective coating. You will not be sorry! It is the best thing ever for glasses. Have the optical provider you choose show you the difference with a lens that has the coating and one that does not…it’s amazing the difference. The lenses are so clear – you see into the person’s eye and not the relection of light bouncing off of them.

Photographs? How wonderful is it to have a photograph taken where you don’t have the reflection from the camera flash showing in your glasses?

If you work at all around a computer or under flourescent lights – you will love it! Reduces eye strain – it truly does.

You do need to be careful with the crizal coating and always wet your lenses before you clean them. They don’t scratch super easy but obviously nothing is scratch proof so you want to ensure you protect your investment.

I have the anti-reflective/crizal coating on all my lenses, including the back of my sunglass lenses – and it’s fantastic.

Well worth the investment – for both the Sillouette brand and the crizal coating.

Good Luck!

which are cooler eyeglass frames?

Posted on October 19th, 2010 by admin

I already own a pair of black emo plastic rectangular frames?

Which is cooler? The black semi rimless plastic frames (ogas) or the black retro plastic oval-like frames (salt)? My emo glasses look like the ogos except for the temple detail and not being semi-rimless

These are my pair. They look like the ogas.

The semi-rimless do look flimsy especially for a high prescription like mine…a few opticians say that I can wear them but I don’t about that…the Salt look good on me….it’s somewhat different from my rectangular frames….i don’t feel like getting another rectangular style

I like the second pair, salt, better because I think it looks better. I don’t like the first pair because it seems like there is no frame for the bottom part of the glasses. This is why I don’t wear those kinds. I am always afraid I would break them.
